Der KIM-Technology-Watch-Report (TWR) veröffentlicht News-Meldungen und Übersichtsartikel über relevante Standards und Entwicklungen aus den Themengebieten Metadaten und Interoperabilität. Der deutsch- und englischsprachige TWR umfasst sowohl die technische Seite der Interoperabilität, z.B. Identifikatoren, Datenmodelle, Metadatenvokabulare, Formate, Semantic Web und Dokumentsprachen, als auch deren organisatorische und praktische Seite, z.B. Standardisierungsinitiativen, Werkzeuge und innovative Ansätze aus diversen Anwendungsbereichen wie Webharvesting und Langzeitarchivierung. Der TWR ist eine gemeinsame Unternehmung des Kompetenzzentrums Interoperable Metadaten (KIM)[1] und der Arbeitsgruppe Internationale Standardisierung in der digitalen Informationsbeschaffung (Standards) der Deutschen Initiative für Netzwerkinformation e.V. (DINI)[2].

Der KIM-TWR charakterisiert sich wie folgt:

  • Der TWR orientiert sich an ein deutschsprachiges Fachpublikum.
  • Der TWR liefert Kurzmeldungen über aktuelle Entwicklungen und kurze Übersichten zu spezifischen Themen.
  • Der TWR ist ein ressourceneffizientes Netzwerk von Experten, die in der Standardisierungswelt tätig sind und aus ihrer Sicht wichtige Neuigkeiten bündig und zeitnah an die Leserschaft weitergeben oder externen Autoren helfen, ihr eigenes Fachwissen kurz, übersichtlich und im Hausstil darzustellen.
  • Der TWR erhebt keinen Anspruch, Standardisierungsaktivitäten systematisch abzudecken, so wie dies beim Katalog des World Standards Services Network)[3], ISO/IEC Information Centre[4] oder JISC Standards Catalogue[5] der Fall ist.
  • Das Blog-Format des TWR bietet zeitnahe Produktion, effiziente Verbreitung und direkte Kanäle für Feedback von Lesern.
  • In Zukuft wird die Möglichkeit bestehen, Beiträge oder eine Auswahl von Beiträgen als PDF-Datei herunterzuladen.

The KIM Technology Watch Report (TWR) publishes news items and overview articles about relevant standards and developments in the field of metadata and interoperability. Contributions to the TWR can be in German and English and cover the technical aspect of interoperability, e.g. identifiers, data models, metadata vocabularies, formats, semantic web and document languages, but also their organizational and practical aspects, e.g. standardization initiatives, tools and innovative approaches from various fields, like web harvesting or long-term preservation. The TWR is a joint activity of the Kompetenzzentrum Interoperable Metadaten (KIM)[1] and the working group on internationale standardization in digital information retrieval (standards) of the Deutsche Initiative für Netzwerkinformation e.V. (DINI)[2] .

Characteristics of the KIM TWR are:

  • The TWR addresses a German speaking audience.
  • The TWR issues short news items on current developments and short overviews on specific topics.
  • The TWR is a resource efficient network of experts, who are active in the world of standardization and who disseminate important news in a concise and timely manner. These experts also help external authors to publish their own expert knowledge in line with the house style, brief and clear.
  • The TWR does not claim to systematically cover standardization activities like the World Standards Services Network[3] , the ISO/IEC Information Centre[4] or the JISC Standards Catalogue[5].
  • The blog format of the TWR allows for the contemporary production and efficient dissemination of contributions and direct channels for reader’s feedback.
  • To support the availability of the contributions in print form, the TWR will soon allow for the export of articles and news as PDF.
